Al has been using Tails Up since 2008. He has caught an impressive array of bigguns both home and abroad and has UK PBs of a 52lb mirror and 46lb common. As well as this he is one of only a handful of anglers in the UK to have caught 40lb plus carp from both the legendary Wraysbury 1 and Wraysbury 2.
Many years ago I made a conscious change to my fishing, to get away from small and/or crowded waters. I wanted to try my hand at the larger, lower stocked and quieter venues, in some cases hopelessly chasing myths and legends (although I can say that they do exist as I have personally seen two fish around the 50lb mark that may never have been caught). This requires a totally different mind-set and mentality to fishing for numbers of fish, you cannot afford to have any doubts in terms of your tactics, tackle or approach. Key to that approach is complete confidence in your bait. I went from fishing a water where 5 fish in a weekend was a good result to finishing second top rod on my new water (a vast, lightly stocked and very difficult pit in the Cotswold Water Park) with 2 fish that season.
Since my first conversation with Ash in 2008 I have used nothing but Tails Up bait, I caught my first 30 that year on OCM (from the above mentioned pit). Since then I have caught my floater PB using Floater Oil and from a large, tough Colne Valley pit PB mirrors and commons both weighing over 45lb using a custom version of the Red Fish Mix.
Since then I have had some memorable results on Wraysbury 1 and Wraysbury 2 on the Pro Marine and now Sea Monsta culminating in a 52lb February PB mirror in 2021. In 2020 I decided to venture to France for the first time and caught my first overseas 50 plus from a large public water in the midi Pyrenees - Sea Monsta doing the business abroad as well as at home.
Confidence in my bait is absolutely critical to my style of angling and Tails Up bait gives me this – I literally feel I could take my bait anywhere and catch.
